“I Love Crab Cakes!” Competition Postponed Till Monday, November 5
Due to the severe storm in the DC area,the 7th Annual “I Love Crab Cakes!” competition at Phillips Flagship Restaurant (900 Water St., S.W) will be postponed until Monday, November 5th.
The annual competition and fundraiser in remembrance of Karen Cathey will take place on Monday, November 5, 2012 from 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Guests will sample each participating chef’s unique take on crab cakes, along with carefully selected wines and fresh, seasonal beers from Port City Brewing Company. Chefs Scott Drewno and Ris Lacoste will share emcee duties to keep you entertained! Eight chefs will compete for funds to support an intern and eight culinary school students will compete for a $500 scholarship. Bill Butcher will be pouring Port City Beer to keep things lively.
Chefs from eight local restaurants will compete to win funds for a culinary intern: Will Artley, Pizzeria Orso; Erik Bruner-Yang, Toki Underground; Chris Clime, PassionFish; Eric Frisch, Et Viola; Thomas Leonard, BlackSalt; Marjorie Meek-Bradley, Graffiato; Wes Morton, Art and Soul; and Russell Smith, Wolfgang Puck Catering.
The judging panel includes: Yours Truly, Betsey Apple; Chef Amy Brandwein, Bill Butcher, Chef Susan Callahan, Chef Janis McLean, and Chef Tracy O’Grady.
Come on out and enjoy the region’s greatest crab cakes from some of DC’s best chefs, a groaning board from Phillips Seafood, wonderful brews from Port City Brewing Company, an event sponsor, and fine wines. All proceeds will benefit future internships, scholarships, and educational programs. A drawing for fabulous door prizes, including a gift basket from Tabasco will support the Karen Cathey Educational Fund.
