Kraut Rocks Prize Pack!

Local blogger Lauren DeSantis from the Capital Cooking Show says, “For today’s foodie generation, sauerkraut can be a mystery ingredient.” I tend to agree … I can’t say that I’ve really tried sauerkraut and I’m positive that I’ve never cooked it.

That’s why a group of trendsetting Washington, D.C. chefs have joined together for Kraut Rocks! Led by Top Chef alum and Washington D.C. restaurateur Spike Mendelsohn, the chefs are sharing sauerkraut recipes and usage tips with food fans. Spike wants to change the perception of sauerkraut from just your average hot dog topping to something worth savoring.

Each competing chef has created a dish featuring sauerkraut on his restaurant menu throughout September. Fans will dine. vote. win.

Kraut rocks! I find its flavor quite strong, so it takes a little planning, but it’s good!

My first kraut experience came in the form of a Reuben… more recently I’ve come to appreciate kraut in pierogies. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could find a Reuben in pierogy form?
