The 11,000 square-foot craft brewery is dedicated to bringing great quality, innovative, handmade craft beers to the DC and Mid Atlantic market. Port Cityproduces world-class quality beer, brewing four year-round beers along with a rotating seasonal selection. The Downright Pilsner is a crisp, refreshing, and modern version of a traditional Pilsner, which will delight all summer long. This beer has 4.8% alcohol by volume and boasts a deep golden color and is medium bodied with a soft round malt profile and crisp, spicy, hop character on the finish. Downright Pilsner gets its carbonation completely naturally as its kept in the formation tanks for up to six weeks. A unique twist on this beer is the dry hop addition of Saaz hops during fermentation. This extra infusion of hops gives the beer a refreshing bite on the finish.
The Tasting Room at Port City Brewing Company has been so popular with customers and DC area craft beer enthusiasts that Port City has decided to expand the space and extend the hours of the Tasting Room operations. To kick off the expanded hours and to unveil the newly renovated Tasting Room, Port City is hosting the first “Port City Pint Party” on July 1, 2012.
The next Light Horse Wine dinner with be with Elk Cove on 8/14.

Although it’s not technically a “local” brew, I absolutely love the Abita Strawberry Lager and get it at the Bayou whenever I get the chance. The absolute, perfect summer beer! (It tastes like a Strawberry milkshake haha)

We just got in two cases of the Abita Strawberry Lager here at the Light Horse a few days ago. It’s not on the menu but we have a small following for it, so we bring in a few cases randomly throughout the summer. Swing by and ask your bartender or server for it!

Although I do love Port City, I think I am going to go with DC Brau. The Citizen is such a great beer, and you can’t argue with the passion these guys have for brewing. I love going to their brewery on the weekends for some sampling, growler filling, and food trucking!

The Port City Monumental IPA is outstanding – but for a favorite local – you have to go with ONE. An excellent, dark, roasty stout – really just top notch.

Port City has some amazing beers such as the Porter. I finally visited DC Brau’s brewery a couple weeks ago and bought a growler! I had it filled with a special collaboration they had with another brewery. It really refined the beer so the hops weren’t so overpowering. I still want to visit Baying Hound and Heavy Seas.

All of the four Port City year-long brews are outstanding. I waffle between Porter or Monumental IPA as my favorite. I was less impressed with Wit the first time I had it, but it has grown on me. I echo the other Sean’s comment about the ONE. I wish they made it year round.

My favorite local brew that I’ve found is Cornerstone Copper Ale from Chocolate City Beer. I have yet to have the pleasure of trying any of the Port City brews yet.

They’re so many out there in the metropolitan area. But I was very impressed with Port City’s beers. I had my first taste in Silver Spring for the free beer tasting. I had to buy 2 six packs of them. Love them!
