On Wednesday night, October 12th, two Georgetown restaurants, Bangkok Joe’s and Ristorante Piccolo donated 25% of proceeds from their dinner sales to the first annual Take A Bite out of Breast Cancer to support Pink Jams!, an outreach and fundraising campaign focusing on early detection in young women and men under 40 years old.

Vanessa and Markette, the ladies behind DC on Heels served as Ambassadors to Bangkok Joe’s and made their participation into a celebration with pink boas for guests! What a fantastic and incredibly festive idea. DC on Heels knows how to party in pink! In addition, they had special guests Miss District of Columbia, Ashley Boalch, in attendance. The same evening, Ristorante Piccolo hosted Ambassadors Dining in DC’s Lisa Shapiro and Micky Merwin of What Micky Eats. Check out Micky’s full reviewof her evening. I was there to not only support the restaurant for their participation in Take a Bite out of Breast Cancer, I was there to celebrate my best friend, Rick Amernick’s birthday! We had an incredible dinner. I enjoyed my celebratory glass of Prosecco. We shared the Calamari appetizer and ordered seafood pasta dishes. At the end of our meal, we were surprised by the staff singing Happy Birthday to Rick. We enjoyed a dessert sampler plate with Tiramisu, housemade classic ladyfinger sponge cake soaked in espresso, layered with a mascarpone mousse, the Cheesecake, and a delicious cannoli.

In addition, throughout the entire month Ristorante Piccolo will be featuring a “pink” appetizer – Gamberi Rosa, which are sauteed tiger shrimp and roasted peppers with garlic in a light pink sauce and a “pink” cocktail – Pink Slipper, that is a concoction of raspberry Stoli, house made strawberry grappa, a touch of grenadine, and triple sec. In addition to donating a portion of sales from Wednesday evening, $1 from each sale of these specialty “pink” items will be contributed to Pink Jams throughout the entire month of October. When I was there for dinner, I sampled the grapa. It was fantastic. The blackberry was also divine!

Piccolo is known for offering many special promotions. On Wednesday nights they offer a couples “Dinner & A Movie”, promotion. For $50 couples can enjoy a 3-course prix fixe meal for two that includes 2 AMC movie tickets, as well as a “Sunset Special”, a $18 3 course meal with limited choices. I will definitely be back to Piccolo for a special dinner in the near future. The restaurant’s interior is beautiful and has been completely renovated since a devastating fire in 2008. It has very romantic ambiance. If you haven’t dined there, you should go!
