Williamsburg Winery

Yesterday I had the opportunity to tour and participate in a wine tasting at the Williamsburg Winery. It was my first time visiting Williamsburg and my first ever time touring a winery. Our guide was very knowledgable and is quite well-versed when it comes to the history of the Winery and about wine in general. Evidently, the majority of Williamsburg Winery wines are produced with California or other sourced grapes and not their own; this was suprising. I learned a lot about the use of different wood wine barrels (American Oak, Hungarian, etc) and how the barrel type and frequency of use (if the barrel had been used to produce another wine 1-7 times previously) change the flavor of the wine. The tour and tasting was about 1 hour and included the sampling of 7 wines, including 2 Chardonnay, 2 Merlot, 1 Reserve (blend), and one dessert wine for $8. My husband and I agreed that the 2004 Reserve was our favorite and was sold for $24 at the Winery.
